The Judiciary Committee (JSC) has resolved to support President Cyril Ramaphosa's selection of Deputy Chief Justice Mandisa Maya as South Africa's next Chief Justice.
Maya will be the first female judge to chair the Supreme Court of Appeal (SCA) and the first woman to be appointed to the position.
She was previously selected as the JSC's preferred candidate when it interviewed four senior judges for the post of Chief Justice, but ultimately lost out to Raymond Zondo.
The JSC also recommended the appointment of Electoral Tribunal Chairman Dumisani Zondi, whose ruling that Jacob Zuma was eligible to be an MP was overturned by the Constitutional Court on Monday, as vice-president of the SCA.
More to come.
