The Umkhonto Wisizwe party in Msina, Limpopo province, has accused the African National Congress (ANC) of vandalizing election posters in the area.
Many of the MK posters have been torn down or hidden along with those of other parties.
But Limpopo ANC provincial secretary Ruben Madaje refuted the MK party's claims as an attention-seeking tactic.
MK party official Cambridge Hrunwani also accused some prominent ANC leaders in the Msina area of ordering the posters to be destroyed.
“There was a previous video of Mayor Musina [Godfrey Mawela] He himself encouraged ANC members at one of his local rallies to burn or remove anything associated with the MK, including President Jacob Zuma himself. These are the words that Mayor Musina instructed ANC members to carry out this act,” Hulunwani explained.
Meanwhile, Limpopo provincial electoral officer Nkalo Mateta confirmed receipt of the complaint.
“We have also received reports of the removal of posters. Please be aware that it is a criminal offense to move or remove political party posters. We are coordinating with SALGA and local authorities. No political party or individual is allowed to deface or remove posters of other political parties,” Mateta added.
