Residents of KwaMhulushwa in Mpumalanga have declared their support for the African National Congress (ANC) and pledged to vote next Wednesday.
ANC president Cyril Ramaphosa addressed a mini-rallies in the area. Residents called on Ramaphosa to remember their struggle for a better life.
Nkomazi is considered an ANC stronghold so it was no surprise to see so many residents at the stadium. The area, like many rural areas, still desperately needs proper services.
“We don't have running water or roads to go and vote. We need to see change in Nkomazi, our area needs to develop too. Young people are taking to drugs and alcohol because of unemployment,” said a resident.
“For now, I feel that change is happening under the ANC government. I will continue to vote for them,” said another resident.
“We don't want a post-election load reduction. We also want roads to be repaired and job opportunities created,” the residents explain.
This is the president's last effort to get people to vote ahead of next week's national and state elections.
“The message to them is to stay focused and we are on our way to victory. But that victory will only be achieved if we all put our shoulders on the wheel. We are now making the final push, because this is part of the goal, the final push,'' Ramaphosa said.
President Ramaphosa is scheduled to address the party's final rally this weekend at FNB Stadium in Gauteng.
