Rise Mzansi party leader Songezo Zibi was in his hometown of Mkanduli in the Eastern Cape to campaign.
He says it is time for young leaders with plans to tackle gaps in service delivery, infrastructural challenges, access to health facilities, skills development and combat gender-based violence (GBV) to take their rightful place.
Addressing a rally at Mkanduri Town Hall, Zibi said these challenges could be addressed by young leaders with innovative ideas.
“We have run a fantastic campaign. It has been really challenging because South Africa is a big place and we are a new organisation. But we visited all nine provinces and delivered a simple message: it is time for new leaders, young leaders, energetic leaders with fresh ideas who care about the communities they come from.”
“We have also been saying we need a leader with a plan for jobs, water, single mothers, early childhood development day care centers and crime prevention,” he explains.
One resident, Sivuyile Belemba, spoke at the rally calling for faster service delivery.
“We have no electricity, no water. This year the taps were installed but there is no water. What are we voting for? Rise Mzansi to develop Mzansi.”
Mkanduri will rise this afternoon.
