Ahead of Wednesday's nationwide elections, the National Joint Operational Intelligence Service (NATJOINTS) has declared its zero tolerance stance towards election-related crimes.
NATJOINTS provided an update on the election campaign plans and the latest suspects arrested. A further 27 election-related cases have been registered and are under investigation, 17 of which were reported in Limpopo province.
NATJOINTS on Sunday issued a stern warning to potential violators that they will not tolerate or tolerate anyone disrupting efforts to ensure stability across the country.
“We inform all political parties that political activities will end at midnight on 28 May 2024. If this continues beyond this period, it will be a breach of the electoral law. Having said that, this is a further exercise of force. Our law enforcement agencies are on the ground to ensure that all those exercising their democratic rights can do so in a peaceful, safe and secure environment,” said NATJOINTS chairman Lt. Gen. Thebelo Mosikili.
The military will support the police during elections.
“The SANDF has been deployed to strengthen policing operations. We carry weapons, like most law enforcement officers, but we use our weapons to deal with criminals, not against civilians,” Mosikili added.
NATJOINTS reassured voters that they would be safe during the voting period.
