- A fallen tree caused traffic congestion in Cape Town on Thursday morning.
- The Western Cape had been hit by strong winds and heavy rain in the past few hours.
- The severe weather also caused power outages in parts of the state.
A tree has fallen on Rose Drive on the M3, causing major traffic congestion in Cape Town.
This came after hours of heavy rain and strong winds in the Mother City.
Both lanes are closed.
City of Cape Town transport spokesperson Maxine Bezuidenhout advised motorists travelling along Rose Drive to exercise caution.
“Traffic officers are directing vehicles towards Orchard Road and Fernwood Road to merge onto the M3,” Mr Bezuidenhout said.
“The Recreation and Parks Department has arrived on scene and they will be taking down the tree.”
Traffic police are also at the spot directing traffic.
Meanwhile, Eskom said power supplies were disrupted in parts of Worcester and Eerstelibia due to bad weather.
“Technical response teams have been deployed to the site to assess and repair damaged infrastructure. Eskom is continually assessing the impact on polling stations and prioritising disruptions affecting the electoral process,” the power company said in a statement.
Eskom added that weather conditions may affect the time it takes to restore power.
