Gogo Maweni denies using dark powers on customers following the invention of the cash candle.
The sangoma shared a video of the pink cash candle on his Instagram page, sparking suspicion.

“I'm probably the best known traditional healer in South Africa so I'm not going to defend myself over nonsense. When I spoke about people handing out money I said it was some people. Just because I know people are doing it doesn't mean I'm doing it.”
“I'm a businesswoman, a traditionalist and an inyanga. I always find ways to combine traditional and western ways.”
Maweni gifted the winner a R10,000 note placed inside one of the candles, but said there was no magical significance to it as winners would receive the money via EFT.
“Cash candles help ward off bad omens and evil spirits in the house. The ingredients that go into the candles are: Ibaso“I thought I would do something clever and put some money inside the candle. There are amounts ranging from R5 to R10,000. One person has a R10,000 withdrawal ticket and they have to call me and let me know they've won R10,000.”
Traditional healers say people talk all the time, so they don't care what is being said.
“It's different for everyone. People talk all the time. I'm not the first to have these conversations and these words being thrown around. It doesn't stop me from doing my job. I have people who believe in me. I've helped a lot of people.”
