The National Assembly is due to hold its first session soon, where 400 politicians will be sworn in as members of the National Assembly.
Of the 18 parties in the 7th Parliament, 11 were re-elected and the remaining seven are represented in Parliament for the first time.
Fadiel Adams, chairman of the National Congress of Colored People, said the party's journey has not been easy.
Fadiel was previously a city councillor for the City of Cape Town.
His party now has two seats in parliament.
“You know, it's impossible to enter parliament as a brand new party with no funding. We have achieved the unthinkable, and more than that, it feels amazing. The problem with the current parliament is that there are too many people who want attention. They only oppose good work, they only oppose. We are not those people. We are committed to achieving the best results for the poorest people,” Fadiel said.
First National Assembly session to be held as scheduled:
South Africa's parliament has confirmed that it will hold its first parliamentary session, despite some political parties stating that they will not attend.
Parliamentary Secretary Masibulele Hatho said the process would be carried out as Parliament has been constituted.
Xaso said it will release information to the public once a date is confirmed.
“Legally, we have 400 members who have already been elected. And their names have been conveyed to the Chief Justice and then to Parliament. So, for us, the members of Parliament have been elected. All we do in the first Parliament is for them to take an oath or a deposition so that they can act as members of Parliament,” Zaso said.
