Panyaza Lesufi of the African National Congress (ANC) has been elected for a second term as Premier of Gauteng. Mr Lesufi was elected unopposed.
He says his priority is working for the state's development rather than talking.
“I am nothing without my allies but most importantly I am a movement of the people, by the people. Thank you so much for appointing me to be an instrument of change. Thank you so much for appointing me to be an instrument of liberation. ANC PEC, you have once again shown that our unity agenda is solid and unwavering. Respected Members, failure is not an option but success is a must. Let's act rather than talk. Let's grow Gauteng together. Thank you,” Lesufi said.
Meanwhile, the ANC's Audrey Mospyoe was elected speaker of the Gauteng provincial legislature unopposed.
Mospuyoye will replace Ntombi Mekwe.
Mossuppyoye says his responsibility is to serve the people of Gauteng.
“Our responsibility as MPs is to serve the people of Gauteng and we should always keep that in mind. I urge all of us to demand of Parliament and I promise to respect the rights of everyone in Parliament and work together in line with the internal regulations such as the Rules of Parliament and other laws that dictate how Parliament should be run. It is the people of Gauteng that we serve, not personal interests.”
