Prominent South African actress and philanthropist Nomzamo Mbatha is currently mourning the tragic death of a student she supported through her foundation.
The actress took to Instagram on Friday to share a video and photo of a young man named Chibimba.
She accompanied the post with a lengthy tribute and words of grief.
“I have been carrying a bit of sadness this past week. One of our @nomzamo_lighthouse scholars and beneficiaries succumbed to deep pain and suffering. The weight of despair far outweighed his will to live.”
“I am heartbroken in so many ways and my heart aches for his family and close friends. I had promised to be there to see him through to graduation day and now here I am thinking, 'I hope you're there.' It's so unfair because he never had any intention of giving up. He inspired everyone around him and had such a belief in himself and such a fighting spirit, which was so amazing.”
“I am sad that this is not your graduation article, Chibimba, that I will not be with you at the summit. But I am sure that you are freed from the pain, worries and burdens of this world. Those left behind are not free from the pain and questions you left behind. You were far more worthy and far more loved physically. There are so many who would have held your hand as you fought for your life,” Nomzamo added.
