Freedom Front Plus president Peter Groenewald said the African National Congress (ANC) had accepted the conditions for recognising Orania.
Freedom Front Plus wants Orania, an Afrikaner-only settlement, to be constitutionally recognised.
Gronewald says this was one of the preconditions for negotiations with the ANC about joining the Government of National Unity (GNU).
Orania is an ethnic Afrikaner town in the Northern Cape, situated on the Orange River in the Karoo region.
“A few weeks ago we had a consultation at the national level of the ANC and I specifically asked about the Northern Cape whether they had the mandate to accept it and the reply I got was that they had the mandate to accept it and they accepted,” Groenewald told host Clement Manyatela on SABC news programme Face the Nation.
Clement Manyatela: What did they accept? Just to clarify for the viewers? What exactly did they accept about your condition?
Gronewald: The agreement that we proposed in the Northern Cape was accepted, and it states, for example, that in all documents and court cases we reiterate the fact that we acknowledge the actions that they have taken and recognise Orania's status.

Meanwhile, ANC secretary-general Fikile Mbalula categorically denied earlier this week that recognition of Orania's status was a precondition for negotiations with FF+.

As South Africa awaits President Cyril Ramaphosa to appoint his cabinet, the FF+ has announced it will join a government of national unity.
Several political parties have agreed to work with the ANC, including the Democratic Alliance (DA), Inkatha Freedom Party (IFP), Patriotic Alliance (PA), Pan African Congress (PAC) and the GOOD Party.
FF+ has signed the Letter of Intent and will use this opportunity to contribute to developing better policy guidelines to steer the country in the right direction.
“We have looked at the agreement and we agree with its principles and we agree that to move South Africa forward we need mechanisms that create stability. We want and should play a role in ensuring stability and ensuring prosperity for all South Africans through better governance, better policy direction and we believe that is where we have a role to play,” FF+ national spokesman Wouter Wessels said.
