President Cyril Ramaphosa says the country's hopes depend on the success of the Government of National Unity (GNU).
In his weekly letter to the nation today, the President said the commitment of political parties to work together has generated a great deal of goodwill that should not be squandered.
He says the success of the GNU will not be measured by who governs but by how much political parties are prepared to focus on how the country is governed in the interest of the people.
The president said he was encouraged by the broad agreement between the parties on the new administration's priorities.
This gives hope that GNU can actually move the country forward, he says.
President Ramaphosa said stakeholders would further refine the GNU programme, building on the priorities outlined in the letter of intent.
He added that there needs to be a clear, coherent and sustainable programme and it needs to be shown that the collaboration is genuine.
The hopes of the country depend on the success of GNU. Our stated commitment to work together constructively for the benefit of South Africa has generated a lot of goodwill that should not be wasted. https://t.co/jSbiZVaL4x pic.twitter.com/dqbGHlUjRA
