Inkatha Freedom Party (IFP) leader Velenkosini Hlabisa is calling on the Democratic Alliance (DA) and African National Congress (ANC) to resolve outstanding issues regarding the Government of National Unity (GNU) negotiations.
Hlabisa spoke to the media in light of the uncertainty surrounding GNU.
Hlabisa is calling on political parties to put their own interests aside and put the people first.
He said the country could not afford to remain in a stalemate without the parties being able to reach an agreement.
“Like all South Africans, the IFP is increasingly concerned. Our concerns are for a country that aspires to progress. The work of governing must begin. We cannot remain on holiday. It is essential, as recognised in the constitution. [President] “We cannot get to the stage of announcing a new cabinet. The IFP calls on the ANC, DA and other parties to resolve outstanding issues without further delay.”
Hlabisa said President Ramaphosa must exercise the prerogatives given to him by the constitution.
“The IFP believes that whoever is involved should finalise the matter and the president should exercise the prerogatives given to him by the constitution accordingly. We know that the president is not going to appoint anyone but he is pondering and the engagement should not go on indefinitely but should reach a point that will move the country forward.”
