President Cyril Ramaphosa announced that he and others had chosen to form a national unity government in response to South Africans' clear desire for political parties to work together for the country's future.
He said the 11-party coalition was committed to working together.
The president announced his cabinet in a live address to the nation on the SABC on Sunday night, following weeks of acrimonious negotiations between the parties that will make up the national unity government.
The MK Party and the EFF did not join the GNU, choosing instead to sit as opposition parties in Parliament.
President Ramaphosa said the statement of intent had been agreed by all political parties.
The Departments of the Interior and Agriculture are currently led by Democratic Alliance members Leon Schreiber and John Steenhausen, respectively.
