She explained that her financial difficulties stem from ongoing efforts to repay tax arrears to the South African Revenue Service (SARS).
In December last year, it was reported that she owed a huge amount of tax to SARS: R6.6 million.
“Every month, all the money I get goes to SARS, so I have no money of my own. So I have to come here. [USA] I had to go to Mashonisa (Loan shark).
“My parents had to borrow money for me so that I could fly business class because, above all, I have to be a superstar,” Makhazi said.

“We made a deal with SARS
Ms Makhazi's management said they made payment arrangements with SARS after she received the tax bill last year.
“We went to negotiate, the money was withdrawn and she is now paying her monthly commitments as per the arrangement with SARS,” her management said.
Management's view on Mashonisa: “I don't know about that”
However, management said they were unaware that Mr Makhadzi had to borrow money to attend the BET Awards.
“As far as the Mashonisa issue is concerned, I don't know. I don't know that any Mashonisa has borrowed money from Makhazi.”
