African National Congress (ANC) parliamentary whip Mdumiseni Ntuli has withdrawn several motions, including one to nominate MPs to the Judicial System Commission (JSC).
This was the first plenary session of Parliament since the members of the seventh administration were sworn in.
Also on the agenda was a motion to elect a Speaker and MPs to the Southern African Development Community Parliamentary Forum (SADC PF), but this was also withdrawn.
Ntuli briefed parliament on the withdrawal.
“I would like to withdraw the following motions. Motion number two is the Speakers' Conference, motion number four is the SADC Parliamentary Forum. The third motion I am withdrawing is number six, which is the election of a JSC. Mr Speaker, the reason for this is for further consultations,” Ntuli added.
The Umkhonto weSizwe party was expected to nominate Dr John Hollophe as its candidate for the judicial committee.
Hlophe, one of South Africa's democratic nation's longest serving judges, was impeached last year.
Last week, he was sworn in as MK party's parliamentary leader.
During the brief meeting, MK's parliamentary secretary, Sihle Ngubane, belatedly raised objections.
“Mr Speaker, I am concerned about the rushed speed at which things are being pushed aside, we are not being consulted on the issues that are being pushed aside and we are not being given the option to know on what basis we are pushing aside the issues,” Ngubane added.
