Kearsney College Choir has won the Golden Voice award at the Barcelona Music Festival.
Media personality Somizi Mhlongo and the Kearsney College Choir created a proud and heartwarming moment as they sang at Barcelona airport in Spain. Hamba Wena.
“Then a magical moment happened at Barcelona airport when I happened to bump into the Kearsney College Choir on their way back from a choral competition.
“It was truly a beautiful and blessed moment. God's chosen golden nation is so proud of you,” Somizi said in a social media post.
Kearsney College Choir has won the Golden Voice award at the Barcelona Music Festival.
The competition is held to promote the art of choral, vocal and organ music and to develop creative links between vocal ensembles and choirs from around the world.
The competition also focuses on expanding the choirs’ repertoire, creating new choir connections and exchanging experiences.

Contestants will be evaluated by a professional international jury according to expert evaluation criteria.
The winners of this year's festival, Kearsney College Choir, will perform in the heart of Barcelona, either at Gaudi's iconic Sagrada Familia, Santa Maria del Pi church in the Gothic old town, or the Cathedral of Santa Cruz y Santa Eulalia.
Kearsney College Choir tours Germany
Leading up to the competition, Kearsney College Choir had the honour of visiting Europe on a tour of Germany where they performed in some beautiful and renowned concert venues.
They performed at Hamburg's famous Elbe Philharmonic Hall, with the 2,100-seat venue selling out months in advance.
The boys' amazing vocals and highly energetic performance style earned them a standing ovation, thunderous applause, and an encore from the audience.
Horst Köhler, former president of Germany and former head of the International Monetary Fund (IMF), was the choir's patron in Germany.
The choir also delighted audiences in the 1,000-seat auditorium of the Leuphana University in Lüneburg, as well as performing in some of the most beautiful and renowned concert venues in Bremen, Hagen and Hanover.

They also focused on the war in Ukraine with songs like “99 Red Balloons,” sung in Zulu, German and English, and the Ukrainian rap song “Stefania,” a powerful anti-war song.
Kearsney 2024 choirmaster Setu Magubane said he and the 54 other boys on the tour had great fun learning to rap in Ukrainian.
Magubane is touring Austria and the Czech Republic with his university choir in 2022 and believes the rap song will definitely be a crowd pleaser.
Kearsney College Choir boasts numerous accolades, including 15 gold medals and seven silver medals at the World Choral Games (the Olympics of choirs).
