Winnie Nshaba is excited about this year's Royalty Soapie Awards.
Winnie, founder of the annual awards, spoke to Daily Sun about the purpose of the event.
“They're celebrating excellence in the soap opera world. I sat there and I thought, soap operas are the most-watched shows on television. I mean, we have 20 million viewers every day. Think about it. And yet we don't get enough praise,” she said.
“Especially the staff and the people who work behind the scenes, they are the ones who work so hard, so I wanted to celebrate them too, so it motivates them and when someone gives them a pat on the back, it makes them want to work harder,” she said.
Nshaba said she would love to donate but it's not possible this year.
“I hope brands, companies and the Ministry of Sport, Arts and Culture will come forward with funding. My wish is to give people money as well as a trophy,” she said.
“Knowing someone is watching makes you want to give 100 percent in whatever you do and you shine at the end of the day,” she said.
The awards ceremony will be held at the Hartfield Arena in Pretoria on August 24.
“The nominees will be announced on July 24th. I'm really looking forward to it. We continue to grow and every year we aim to take it to the next level. We also want to celebrate 30 years of democracy.”
