Following the success of season two, the series has been renewed for season three.

Showrunner and co-creator Ryan Condal managed the ambitious project, coordinating between two to four crews shooting different episodes simultaneously with different directors.

Season 2 continues as both sides prepare for a showdown. “Rhaenyra's side is in grief, while Aegon and Alicent are on the defensive, anticipating retribution,” says Condal. “Damon (Matt Smith) awaits Rhaenyra's orders, but she disappears in her grief, leaving Daemon frustrated and eager for revenge without her authority.”
With Aegon now king, the story will revolve around Alicent and Rhaenyra's children. House of the Dragon “The focus is on them,” Condal reveals. “Alicent, Rhaenyra and Damon are still central characters, but the story also focuses on the second generation of children who are continuing the war their parents started.”
Condal adds that Season 2 will expand on the themes established in Season 1: “How far they're willing to go to claim the throne, especially in a scenario where the dragon acts as a nuclear weapon, creating the threat of mutually assured destruction,” he says.
Looking back on Season 2, Condal feels a sense of accomplishment: “Every season is a battle. This season in particular, I feel like we've accomplished a lot more despite having fewer episodes. We learned a lot making Season 1, and for Season 2, we aimed to make it even better. I believe it will be bigger, richer and better.”
