Botswana President Mokgweetsi Dr Eric Keabetswe Masisi has declared a national holiday today in honour of sprinter Tebogo Letsilu.
Tebogo made history and made his nation proud by beating two American sprinters in the men's 200m final at the 2024 Paris Olympics to become the first African to win a gold medal.
In a statement, the president declared a half-day holiday to celebrate Letzir's victory.
“Public Holiday in Botswana 🇧🇼 The President of Botswana has declared a national “half-day public holiday” to commemorate Letsile Tebogo, the country's first athlete to win an Olympic gold medal.”
“Botswana will have an 'afternoon holiday' on Friday in honour of Tebogo, who on Thursday brought joy to the country by winning gold in the men's 200 metres as the first African to win the title.”
