South Africa's finest musicians, DJ Maphorisa and Kabza de Small of the Scorpion Kings, are not only closing their shows but also their luxury brand stores.
The pair were recently at the centre of controversy after closing off a Louis Vuitton store in London for a private shopping experience.
The Scorpion Kings are known for their contributions to the Amapiano music genre and have always embraced a lavish lifestyle, but this time their actions have sparked a wave of criticism on social media.
Fans and critics have aired their frustrations on social media, accusing the DJs of not understanding the economic realities facing many of their supporters.
“Rich black people are pathetic. All they do is pathetic show off, then they complain about poverty and ask for donations the next while their white brethren are trying to build a legacy,” wrote user X.
“This is definitely not something to show. Sure they work hard for their money. There is a LV in South Africa with South Africans working there. They can easily shop here and contribute to the South African economy and tip South African LV employees. Makes me wonder if they are contributing to the community they come from,” wrote another user.
“It's their money so it's all good but for me it would be even more amazing if they did this with our South African brands like David Theil, Maxhosa, Rich Mnisi etc… if they've done it before then that's great,” wrote another Twitter user.
