According to The Hollywood Reporter, he died of organ failure.
McQueen stars as Dutch in the cult classic The Karate Kid He contributed greatly to the success of the trilogy. He has since appeared in various films, New York Cop, Spendthrift and Red Line.
But his talents extended beyond the silver screen.
Racing career
After achieving stardom as an actor, Steve followed in his father's footsteps by trying his hand at car racing, eventually prioritizing racing over acting.
McQueen was a professional racer for many years, competing in the famous 24 Hours of Le Mans and the 24 Hours of Daytona.

In 2010, the speedster founded McQueen Racing, a company that makes custom cars, bikes and accessories, which is now run by his son Chase and daughter Madison, who also race.
The creation of McQueen Racing and two documentaries I'm Steve McQueen and Steve McQueen: The Man & Le Mansaimed to maintain and even expand his father's influence.
“Chad's passion for racing not only highlighted his extraordinary talent, but also was a way to honor his father's legacy – a testament to the values instilled in him,” his family said Thursday.
A loving father and husband
McQueen's wife and children also praised him for being a wonderful husband and father.
“His incredible journey as a loving father to us and his unwavering devotion to our mother truly epitomizes a life full of love and devotion.
“He passed on his passion, knowledge and dedication to us. We will carry on not only his legacy, but also that of our grandfathers.”
