Winemaking in Nature combines two great ideas: wine and nature. Up to 20 wineries will participate in the event.
Spring is in the air and love is in the air, which means date nights are turning from cold to warm. Instead of a weekend of beers and BBQs for heritage days, why not pack the car and head just a few minutes' drive from Johannesburg to do something completely different.
On September 21, Litsako Game Reserve, located within the Dinokeng Big 5 complex, will combine two great ideas: wine and forest. Visitors can take part in game drives between camps, taste wine and enjoy food all day long. It's like a never-ending date.
Each pit stop throughout the day will make your date day and night more fun and, frankly, something different. Up to 20 wineries will be participating in Wining In The Wild, so you'll have plenty of time to sip wine between tours.
Michael Catterson from Mix 93.8’s Travel Show says it’s hard to beat the combination of two of South Africa’s best exports: “We’ve been producing some of the finest wines in the world for centuries.
“When you combine that with our incredible wildlife heritage, it really is a winning combination.” He's a regular at Litsako. “It's a great getaway for the whole family, or a great date night,” Catterson said. “I've had the most romantic moments with my wife at the lodge.”
Date Night with World-Class Wine
The lodge offers several accommodation options, including self-catering or dining in the restaurant. “Dinokeng is just under 50km from Pretoria, so it's just over an hour to get there from George. It's close by, not hard to find and whenever I've been there the games we've seen have been great,” Catterson said.
The event will also feature a kids' area for family fun if you're heading out for a date night, a live band at the end of the trail, and of course, plenty of delicious fruit to try on the vine.
The perfect combination of comfort and romance
Packing is important this time of year, as an overnight stay will essentially complete your date day and night, so to speak. It's important to strike a balance between comfort, practicality and a touch of romance. For a night out, start with something stylish and comfortable; for a relaxed atmosphere, a matching dress or smart casual wear would be good.
Don't forget your comfy pajamas – something that's both comfortable and intimate. Of course, when you retire to the privacy of your room after wining and dining, it's a good idea to have a few things ready to get you in the mood, like massage oil, a favorite book to read together, and a playlist of your favorite tunes. A couple of glasses, another bottle of wine, and a candle or two. The bush will do the rest.
Don't forget to bring a change of clothes for the next day: comfortable jeans, a light T-shirt and a jumper will have you ready for a long breakfast and a short game drive before setting off and heading home.
Tickets cost R275 per person and can be purchased through the venue's website, and include a tasting glass and a snack basket.
