We met some veteran Mzansi actors at the memorial service for the late Darlington “Papa G” Michaels at the Soweto Theatre in Jabulani on Thursday.

He passed away on Friday, September 13th, after a brief illness.

talk The CitizenFormer “Muvhango” actor Makalo Mofokeng reflected on his long-standing relationship with Michaels, dating back to the late 1970s and early 1980s.

“But his role is SurvivalWorkshop 71's production of The Simpsons really blew me away. I couldn't sleep after watching it. At the time, musicals were the norm, so it was the first time I'd seen a play without music. He was a very loving person, and he had the best clothes.
Actress Motshabi Tierele spoke about her special relationship with Michaels that goes beyond their shared profession.
“Boot Darlington lives near my uncle and whenever he sees me he scolds me for not coming to see him often,” she said with a laugh, imitating her uncle.
“We can always rewind and look at everything he did, but he was a special person. I don't remember him ever being angry,” she added.
Funeral details for Darlington “Papa G” Michaels
Mr Michaels' burial will take place on Saturday, September 21. The funeral will take place at Uncle Tom's Community Centre, Orlando West, Soweto, from 9am to 11am.
