Two people died of hypothermia after becoming trapped in snow over the weekend.
Television personality Dr Musa Muthombeni has faced backlash after making a joke about the severe snowstorm that left many motorists stranded over the weekend.
In a now-deleted Instagram post, the TV presenter appeared to mock people affected by heavy snowfall on roads in the Free State.
He joked that the victims might have been okay if they had brought their snowboards.
At least two people died after becoming trapped in snow over the weekend, emergency workers said, both of them suffering from hypothermia.

Dr Musa wrote: “We are busy preparing and gearing up to represent South Africa at the 2026 Winter Olympics.
“I've heard there's chaos in the Free State. Some of you may have had to sleep in your cars or relieve yourself on the highway. If you had your snowboard you would have been fine. Anyway, enjoy your weekend and don't let the weather drive you to visit strangers.”
The post immediately sparked outrage on social media, with many accusing the TV star of being insensitive and callous.
