The National Film Academy hosts awards such as the British National Film Awards, the US National Film and Television Awards and the National Reality Television Awards.
Awards season is well underway in South Africa, with the second annual National Film and Television Awards (NFTA) releasing their list of nominees this week after receiving more than 1.7 million public submissions this year.
The awards recognise the finest achievements in the South African film and television industry.
The National Film Academy is one of the world's largest film and television organizations, with more than 7.5 million members worldwide.
The Academy is responsible for the UK National Film Awards, the US National Film and Television Awards and the National Reality Television Awards.
“As the only awards ceremony of its kind to have a presence in South Africa, the NFTA stands out with its unique vision of showcasing South African talent to the world,” said Sarah Kensington, director of global partnerships at the National Film Academy.
“South African film and television have long reflected the country's rich cultural fabric. Our ongoing theme, 'Connecting South Africa to the World through Film and TV', highlights our commitment to ensuring the world recognises the impact that local South African stories and talent have on the world.”
It will expand to South Africa in 2023 with the introduction of the flagship National Film and Television Awards. The second South African edition of the NFTAs is scheduled to take place at the Pretoria Opera House in November.

Tough competition
The best actress category includes young actors such as Nambita Ben Mazwi, known for her work in “Savage Beauty” and “Empini”, and actress Katlego Lebogang, known for her performances in “Yo! Christmas”, “Spinners” and the Netflix series “Ama Kamata”. Blood and Water.
Veteran actress Connie Ferguson Hunter's Heart Role and Robolaman's Kwanele Mthetwa rounded out the category.
The Best Male category will go to a man who appeared on one of the aforementioned TV shows that featured mostly women.

The glamorous ceremony will be broadcast in 15 countries and streamed live on European streaming service Voovix TV, which is also available in South Africa.
The best drama series awards show just how diverse South African television has become, with the nominees including some streaming staples. Savage Beauty and Blood and Water e.tv Zwide's House, Deep Waters and SABC 1 Scaem Sam.
Noot ville noot Emo Adams has been nominated for Best Male Television Personality. The TV presenter was also nominated in the same category at this year's South African Film and Television Awards (Saftas).
Adams was asked to host the long-running show by its original host, Johan Stemmett.
