Adesina’s life took a turn for the better after she accepted the invitation to participate in Miss Universe Nigeria.
Former Miss South Africa contestant and reigning Miss Universe Nigeria, Chidinma Adesina, has expressed her gratitude to Nigeria after she was appointed as the ambassador of the West African country's Enugu state.
“I can't express my gratitude enough for all the great things we've accomplished in my father's land,” Adesina said.
Adesina, 22, withdrew from Miss SA after her South African citizenship was questioned. She then accepted an invitation to participate in Miss Universe Nigeria.
Her father is Nigerian.
In August, the Home Office revealed allegations of fraud and identity theft involving the mother.
Her mother, who was born in 1982, applied for an identity card in Tshwane in 1995.
When she went to the capital to pick up her ID, authorities told her she would be collecting it in Johannesburg, where she had not applied.
Then, in 2001, she gave birth to a child. When I tried to register the birth of my child, I was informed that the child was already registered with my ID number. That child was Adesina.
Adesina ultimately won the beauty pageant in August, representing Taraba State in northeastern Nigeria.
“Let me say it again…Nigeria, thank you for picking me up when I was on my knees,” Adesina said. “My story is powerful not only in Nigeria but globally. Many young people can relate to and learn from my journey.”

Adesina's resilience is praised.
Governor Peter Mba of Enugu State praised Adesina for his resilience over the past few months.
“Despite people trying to bring you down, you have shown the grit and resilience that are the hallmarks of the people of Enugu State. You are a true daughter of Enugu.”
“With your achievements, you can make a huge impact, especially on young girls. We look for ways for you to engage with them, share your experiences and inspire them.” Mba News Central reported his remarks.
The governor also promised the state government's support for Ms. Adesina's participation in the next Miss Universe pageant to be held in Mexico.
Miss Universe 2024 will be the 73rd Miss Universe competition. It will be held on November 16, 2024 at Arena CDMX in Mexico City, Mexico.
