“A few months after Mrs. Chiume's passing, the Connie Chiume Foundation continues her legacy by taking over the work she started. She was passionate about cultural exchange, which she has continued for a long time. And we feel it is an important thing to do,” Nongelo told TshisaLIVE.
“Pulse of South Africa was a project supported by the sport, arts and culture sector and other partners. We are ensuring that her legacy lives on by bringing the annual festival back to the United States. I'm considering continuing.”
Nongelo said she is also considering continuing the acting workshops Kony hosts in rural areas and towns with her daughter, actress and rapper Notando Mabuza.
Nongelo admits that dealing with the loss of her mother was not easy.
“I can't say I'm coping by any means, but I admire and respect her for the way she lived and for the person she was. She was someone who believed that life must go on, and that we will continue to inherit and continue.” He has left a great legacy for us to carry on. Among my brothers, we all do that. They take comfort in knowing that their mother lived a full life.
“I think over the past five years she has been celebrated, especially in the international arena. We've seen her travel around the world and be honored. I think that brings some peace. , she saw that she smelled it. She said so herself.
“We are grateful for the love we received while she was alive, and we are grateful for the love we received when she passed away. Although her death touched many lives, , it meant a lot to us and meant that her work would be noticed and her work celebrated, so we can only preserve that legacy.”
