Current Miss South Africa Mia Le Roux was presented with the national flag by Brand South Africa on Thursday ahead of her visit to Mexico to compete in the Miss Universe pageant.

Several members of the media, fashion industry insiders, and Le Roux's friends and family gathered at the swanky Maslow Hotel in Sandton to give Miss SA a warm send-off as she flies to Mexico to compete in the 73rd Miss Universe pageant. .

Miss Universe will be held on November 16, 2024 at Arena CDMX in Mexico City, Mexico.

Le Roux is the first deaf woman to be crowned Miss SA and says she wants to bring greater inclusivity to people with hearing loss.
“When I was little, I was always waiting for my hero. I was waiting for someone to stand up for me and pave the way forward,” Le Roux said.
“I really understand the frustration of no matter how intelligent and smart you are, you keep knocking on doors and they don't open. Eventually, I realized that I needed to be my own hero.” she said.
As part of the build-up to Miss SA, each of the top 10 contestants in the competition had the opportunity to present a project to Brand SA under the Play Your Part program.
