Royal expert Katie Nicholl has revealed that Duchess Kate wants a co-educational school for Prince George. But Prince William has other plans in mind.
Duchess Kate is said to be “heartbroken” as she and Prince William are forced to make a major decision about Prince George's future.
The Prince and Princess of Wales, both 42, are debating the next steps for their eldest son, who is nearing the end of his prep school years.
Royal expert Katie Nicholl revealed Middleton preferred co-educational schools in England so 11-year-old George could be close to his siblings. But Prince William has other plans in mind.
“The Duchess of Cambridge wants George to attend a co-educational school with his siblings, reflecting his experiences at Marlborough College with his sister Pippa and brother James,” Nicholl said.
Transformation of the Royal School? George's future may break with tradition
Middleton attended Marlborough College in Wiltshire from 1996 to 2000, where she had a happy school life, the Mirror reported.
“However, William cherishes his time at Eton, which has a deep tradition with aristocrats and royalty,” Nicholl added.
“Traditions can change at any time,” she said. “William and Harry did not follow in their father's footsteps to attend Gordonstoun in Scotland, so it is possible that George may not have gone to Eton but gone elsewhere.”
She stressed that whatever decision is made, it will be up to William and Duchess Kate to have George's best interests in mind.
Pupils of the Palace: The School That Shaped the British Royal Family
Historically, royal children were either educated at home or sent to boarding schools. Charles III and his sons, William and Harry, attended boarding school.
Charles, now 76, started attending Team School in Berkshire at the age of eight, making him the first heir to the throne to attend a mainstream school. William, 42, and Harry, 40, followed a similar path, starting at Ludgrove School in Berkshire and ending at Eton, the New York Post reported.
Duchess Kate and Prince William's children Prince George (11), Princess Charlotte (9) and Prince Louis (6) attended Thomas School in Battersea, London for the first time. In 2022, the family moved to Adelaide Cottage before enrolling at Lambrook, an independent preparatory school in Berkshire that costs £47,000 a year.
Nicole said “OK!” The royal couple's younger brothers are having a great time there. More than anything, it gave them stability during uncertain times, such as when their mother was undergoing treatment for cancer. “When Kate was in the hospital, George was playing with his friends on the soccer field,” Nicole said.
She explained that it is important to maintain composure during the most difficult times. “Schools provide strong support and a solid foundation to ensure children have a privileged but simple and happy childhood.”
