Singer Jean du Plessis, known to his fans as Jan Brukers, has lost his battle with brain cancer. He died Tuesday night at the age of 25.
The news was posted on his official Facebook page on Wednesday morning. “It is with great sadness that I share with you the news that Jan Brukers, also known as Jean du Plessis, went to his heavenly home last night. His bright laughter, love, fighting spirit, and compassion for others will always be remembered by me. It leaves an emptiness within us,” the statement said.
Additionally, Brookers' family and loved ones thank them for their prayers and support and ask for privacy at this time. “His music lives on and his voice will always be with us. We will miss you, but we know you are right where you need to be.”

He was diagnosed with a brain tumor in 2022 and frequently shared his journey with his followers, calling them “Katoshi.” He also regularly paid tribute to other celebrities, including radio personality Mark Pilgrim and Mumble rapper Angie O, who both died after battling cancer.

Brukers also used his platform to share his faith journey with his followers. On November 7, 2022, he said being a Christian does not mean missing out on life's sorrows. “I don't know much about it, but I think it's something that a lot more people are struggling with than we realize. We're going to suffer! Just hold your head up. That fight is yours.” No, and thank God for that.”
On January 9, 2018, Brookers announced that her cancer had shrunk and she was ready to take on the world again. “The cancer has shrunk. It's time to make music and tour again. You are my everything. Praise the Lord!”
He also said he would have been happy if things had stayed the way they were. “He's shrunk and his color is fading. But on January 24, Brukers posted a video with one eye taped shut and announced that he also suffers from facial paralysis (Bell's palsy).
Fighting spirit after cancer setback
On June 6th, he once again shared bad news with his followers that his cancer was spreading.
“I still wanted to make a lot of music for you guys. I'm not saying it's over. I still believe in miracles. But I'm not in a position to hope for miracles. ”
On November 29th, Brukers shared his last update on his “katte”.
He is survived by his father Dern, mother Ronnel and brothers Stefan and Johan.
