African National Congress (ANC) Vice-President Paul Mashatile delivers his party's message of support to the South African Communist Party (SACP)'s 5th Special National Conference, which opens today in Boksburg, east of Johannesburg.
Relations between the two are strained.
The agenda for the four-day conference includes the party's resolution for the SACP Central Committee to fight the 2026 local elections independently.
This is due to the Communist Party's failure to realize the ANC's reconstitution of the tripartite alliance and the inclusion of the Democratic Alliance (DA) in a national unity government.
ANC Secretary-General Fikile Mbalula said: Vice President Mashatil will lead our delegation. He will also carry our message to the SACP meeting, as we have been invited to carry our message of support, and he will do so. ”
“We have a delegation. We will then listen to the conference and hold a bilateral meeting with the SACP in January.”
Mr Mbalula added: “If they actually make a decision that they have already told us they want to be independent, we will approach that decision in terms of the implications for the alliance, but we will “This will have far-reaching implications for future alliances.”
