The Umkhonto Wisizwe (MK) party says it is ready to take legal action against the South African Electoral Commission (IEC) to annul the results of May's general election over alleged vote fraud.
The party was given permission by the Electoral Court to withdraw its application at the end of October.
MK party general secretary Floyd Shivambu said they were ready to prove election fraud.
The party won the most votes in KwaZulu-Natal, but was unable to secure an outright majority. It is now the official opposition party in parliament after other parties formed a state unity government.
Mr Shivambu will brief the media in Durban. “With respect to the extensive evidence presented to the leadership, we believe that if it is brought before a balanced, free, transparent and open court, we will have clear evidence that there was election fraud. I am convinced that the target was Mkhonto Wesizwe. The aim was to reduce and replace the votes that would have been received by Umkhonto Wesizwe Caesar in the 2024 elections. And it would be proven in open court by a legal representative assigned to perform such a role. ”
Mr Shivambu claims there was a deliberate attempt to prevent the MK party from gaining an outright majority in KwaZulu-Natal.
“It's not a frivolous case. It's not that MKP is refusing to accept the results. It's a genuine case. Those who still have access to the results, please try accessing all the VDs.”
