Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) National People's Meetings have always been held at decisive moments in South Africa's history, said EFF leader Julius Malema, who reports for the party in Nasrec, south of Johannesburg.
The party is holding its third National People's Congress to elect its top six leaders.
More than 2,000 party delegates are participating in this election conference.
Malema says the EFF has succeeded in influencing the country's political debate.
“The first National People's Congress was founded by Lonmin miners at Marikana 34 It was held at a time when the country was reeling from the tragedy of a brutal massacre of people. And the former liberation movements had a firm grip on our democracy through elections, which gave them a sense of impunity. The result was a high level of unchecked corruption. It was the formation of this movement that brought the Marikana massacre to the halls of parliament and shook the former liberation movement to its core.

Live stream | EFF 3rd National People's Congress (Nasrec):
Leaders who left the party
Meanwhile, EFF Gauteng provincial chairperson Nkululeko Dunga said the recent resignations of some of the party's prominent leaders served as a reminder of some of the obstacles facing the party.
The EFF has been hit by various challenges in the lead-up to the Third National People's Congress, where former Vice-President Floyd Shivambu and former National Chairman Dali Mpofu left the Umkhonto Wisizwe Party structure.
Dunga said former leaders who left the organization put their own interests ahead of those of the party.
“However, we must recognize that the EFF faces challenges from within and without. The recent resignation of some leaders who have prioritized selfish ambitions over the collective liberation of our people It served as a reminder of the obstacles faced and continue to be faced on the revolutionary journey.
