The South African Transport and Allied Workers Union (SATAWU) says the next leadership should develop programs to address the challenges faced by workers in the transport, security and cleaning services sectors.
The union is holding its 6th national conference in Bloemfontein, Free State.
The three-day conference will discuss issues such as unpaid salaries of members of parliament who work for private companies and the government's privatization of state-run institutions.
Delegates also condemned the African National Congress' (ANC) decision to unilaterally form a Government of National Unity (GNU).
ANC Secretary-General Fikile Mbalula said alliance partners who had not yet been persuaded needed to be explained that the GNU was the best solution to the election results.
“Our message to SATAWU is to clarify most of the misconceptions about the formation of the GNU and outline the strategic vision of the ANC. This was a tactic and a result of the ANC’s poor performance in the elections.”
