Gauteng Economic Freedom Fighters chairman Nkululeko Dunga said the province had agreed to re-elect President Julius Malema to a third term as EFF leader.
Dunga was speaking on the sidelines of the EFF's 3rd National People's Assembly held at Nestlec in Johannesburg to fill the vice-presidential post left vacant when Floyd Shivambu moved to the Umkhonto Wisizwe Party. He also said the state would consider former officials.
He added that the question of who the state would support as presidential candidate would be discussed in the plenary session once it formally convened, but the state general assembly had already voted for Malema to keep his job. He said that it has been done.
The consideration of a former official for the vice-president position is seen as a sign that the state supports former Secretary-General Goderich Gardy for the position.
On Thursday, the M&G reported that the EFF plans to endorse Mr Malema's candidacy at the party's electoral conference, following a fierce campaign season following Mr Shivambu's resignation.
The appointments include Malema as chairman, Gardie as deputy, newcomer Nonthando Nordshung as chairman, Onfir Maotwe as treasurer, Marshall Dlamini as executive director, and Leanne Mathis as deputy executive director. becomes.
There were indications that Mr Mattis was likely to be challenged by North West Secretary Papikie Babuile.
Sources said there were talks of Mr Dunga competing against Mr Maowe as finance secretary.
Dunga dismissed speculation that he would accept nomination for the top spot if his name came up from the floor.
“We are the leaders of the EFF in Gauteng, and although we have only been elected for a short time, we are making a contribution there. Before the election, I was only the regional chairperson, and the national committee I have no interest in going there.”
The party plans to announce the newly elected top six parties on Saturday.
