Police in KwaZulu-Natal have announced a high level of deployment in and around Durban's Moses Mabhida Stadium, where the Umkhonto Wesizwe Party (MK) is celebrating its first anniversary.
Thousands of supporters from all over the country are expected to attend.
Police spokesperson Jay Naicker said police were working closely with various agencies.
“As with all other events, planning for such events begins weeks in advance and is never last minute. We are proactive in our planning and will continue to work with major events in this state. There has never been an accident.
“Therefore, meetings began a few weeks ago with the organizing bodies and security services to ensure that nothing is left behind until the last moment. The deployment will therefore be focused on routes to the stadium. ”We also want to prevent crime in and around the stadium, and we want to ensure that our visitors are not susceptible to any form of crime, and that we will never tolerate criminal activity. I would like to guarantee it. ” he added.
Preparations for MK party meeting are in full swing:
Meanwhile, the MK party says it is only providing buses to Durban's Moses Mabhida Stadium for supporters based in KwaZulu-Natal.
Thousands of party supporters are expected to attend the rally to commemorate the first anniversary of the party's founding.
The MK party became South Africa's official opposition party following the May 29 general election and the formation of the GNU, which includes the DA.
The DA was the official opposition party until it joined the GNU. In a media briefing earlier this week, party general secretary Floyd Shivambu said the party had no plans to bus supporters from out of state to the rally.
