Mpumalanga's African National Congress Youth League (ANCYL) criticized the Mbombela municipality for failing to appoint rank-and-file officers despite receiving thousands of applications.
According to the federation, thousands of unemployed young people have applied for municipal jobs, but eight months have passed since the vacancies were posted, and applicants have yet to receive feedback from the municipality. .
The Elanzeni Youth Alliance plans to march to Mbombela city today to demand that the city fill the positions.
ANCYL Elanzeni regional chairperson Kabanga Maluleka said the recruitment process needed to start as soon as possible.
“Why does it take so long to just appoint general staff?” Because the problem of high unemployment is a serious crisis in Mpumalanga. And these are posts that have a budget and are funded. Therefore, since the financial resources are already available, we believe that there will be no financial burden on local governments. The processes that we are currently asking municipalities to address urgently are appointing these rank-and-file staff, starting the shortlisting process, bringing people in for interviews, (and) hiring people. It's a process. ”
