Malik said his time away from music has allowed him to explore other creative avenues.
After a two-year hiatus, Afro-house sensation Malik Zwane is back with a new self-titled album.
The 17-song album, which features collaborations with legendary artists like Ringo Madlingozi, Afrotraction, Vusi Nova, and Gedleza, was released last month.
talk to The CitizenMalik said that stepping away from music was not planned, but he was able to explore other creative avenues.
He explained that during this time, he worked behind the scenes on several television shows while producing music for other artists.
“I’ve produced a lot of artists, I just wanted to do more production.
“I've been in charge of music for TV shows, advertisements and video productions. I love both performing and producing as far as music is concerned,” he said.

Malik talks about embracing fatherhood
Malik added that the hiatus also gave him the opportunity to fully embrace fatherhood.
“You miss out on a lot when you're on tour. During this break, I was able to be with my kids, help them with their homework, and be actively involved in their lives.
“Being a father is not just about providing financially, it’s about leading, listening and being present,” he said.
The album reflects this stage in his life, with heartfelt tracks inspired by his journey as a father.
“One of my favorites is bayahura avantwana bamdedicated to my children.
“This is a celebration of their growth and the opportunity to be a part of their lives despite the challenges.”
To celebrate the album's release, Malik will perform at the New Year's Day Gardens event on January 1st at the Birchwood Hotel & OR Tambo Conference Center.
