Subuso Lawrence, who killed his girlfriend over an affair, reportedly took his own life.
The young man committed suicide by hanging himself from a tree near the spot where he brutally murdered his girlfriend, Nontobeko Cele.
Robert Ntsiunda of the South African Police Service said the couple appeared to have been involved in an argument related to gender-based violence.
“Police are investigating the murder and a coroner's report will also be opened for further investigation,” he said.
Lawrence shared a video on social media explaining why he killed the woman.
“You'll say I'm cruel. I've worked hard all my life trying to satisfy women and make them happy. I tried my best, but many things, including money… I lost.
“Even after she gave birth to a child that wasn't hers, I tolerated her and took care of them. She got tired of me and broke up with me. She took money from the road accident fund. “Because I'm not good enough for her anymore,” he said.
Senzo Mchunu, South Africa's Minister of Police, said: “This shocking incident is a solemn reminder of the continuing prevalence of gender-based violence in our society. It is a betrayal of our common humanity and has no place in our country.
“Furthermore, the use of social media to amplify such atrocities is completely unacceptable and reflects a disregard for basic decency and the dignity of others.”
KwaZulu-Natal Premier Thamsanka Ntuli issued a statement: “Sadly, the perpetrator took his own life, denying us the opportunity to ensure that justice is served for such an evil act. This incident highlights the urgency of addressing this tragedy. It highlights that.
“This horrific incident occurred shortly after the launch of the 365 Days to End Violence Against Women and Children Campaign and calls for continued and intensified efforts to eradicate gender-based violence and femicide in our communities. It highlighted the gender.
“Violence against women is an attack on our humanity and the values we protect as a society. As a state, we will not tolerate such behavior and will ensure that women and children feel safe and protected. We have to work together.”
