ANC president Cyril Ramaphosa said that despite the ANC's declining electoral numbers, businessmen's appetite for funding has increased. In the May 2024 election, the ANC's approval rating in a national election fell below 50% for the first time in 30 years.
However, Mr Ramaphosa said the party expected to raise enough funds to fund ANC operations.
He was speaking at the ANC's Presidential Golf Day event in Rondebosch, Western Cape, as part of the party's 113th anniversary celebrations.
“While we've seen a decline in the number of voters, we've seen a resurgence of interest and support in the business community, both black businesses and white businesses. So we're really happy to have anchor supporters. ” he says.
Mr Ramaphosa said he was also looking forward to hosting the G20 later this year, where a range of issues, including investment in South Africa, would be discussed over golf.
Mr Ramaphosa was speaking today on the sidelines of the ANC Presidential Golf Day at Rondebosch Golf Course in the Western Cape.
This year, a group of G20 countries will visit South Africa and President Ramaphosa will advocate for Africa's interests on the world stage.
Prime Minister Ramaphosa said golf would be one of the ways to encourage various heads of state to discuss global issues.
“This year for the G20, many world leaders will be here and we will probably invite them in their free time to tour our golf courses. Our country has some of the most beautiful, well-kept golf courses. There are courses and people are interested in golf because when you play golf, it's a time when everyone has serious discussions about serious issues such as nationhood and nation-building,'' Ramaphosa says.
