Political analyst Sanusya Naidoo says EFF president Dr Mbuyiseni Ndlozi's resignation from parliament is not a shock.
The Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) confirmed his resignation from parliament. However, he remains a party member.
Ndlozi was absent from the party's third congress held in December last year.
Mr Naidu says Mr Ndlozi's influence in politics remains.
“If you follow what happened after last year's elections, there was a sense within the EFF camp that everything was not right, but there were doubts about the relationship at the top. Dr. Ndlozi is a very intelligent person and and has a very good understanding of how parliamentary affairs apply. Even if he were to remain a rank-and-file member, the question would be what the structure itself would be. ” says Naidu.
“Dr Mbuyiseni Ndlozi’s resignation as EFF member is not that surprising”: Sanusya Naidoo
Dr Mbuyiseni Ndlozi, the now-resigned EFF Member of Parliament, is known for his gentle demeanor and soulful singing voice and is affectionately known as “People's Bae'', meaning “object of the people's love''. It's been less than 10 years since then. And all the while, he didn't shy away from heated arguments or witty jokes during debates in the House of Commons.
In addition to his good looks, he is also known to be very witty and quick to tell jokes in the House of Commons. The late Presidential Minister Jackson Mthembu, who once brought his adult daughter to the chamber, warned Ndlozi not to wear the red beret, but Ndlozi continued to defy.
“I have my daughter and her friends in the gallery. And I want to say to her, 'My daughter, Tuli, if you see someone in red overalls and boots approaching you, my daughter, , run away!” …and don’t look back! ”
Ndlozi: Turi? Turi, Turi!
Chairman Modise: Honorable Mr. Ndlozi's orders are completely out of order.
Beyond matters of the heart, Ndlozi once received applause from his entire household after former speaker Baleka Mbete got married.
“At least on behalf of the EFF, I would like to sincerely congratulate you on your marriage. We believe in love… and believe that we must celebrate those who find love. Success and happiness, Chairman I sincerely hope that we can all join and relate ourselves to this motion. This is an urgent motion for love, thank you.”
Mr Ndlozi also introduced new language to Parliament.
“Vice Speaker, we are worried that this Minister, to whom we pay a large salary, is sleeping. Minister Maite, she is still sleeping! We ask you to pay money without sleeping. I'll pay him! We're busy arguing and you're sleeping!”
The current Speaker, Thoko Didisa, then Speaker of the House of Representatives, congratulated Ndlozi, who was all smiles when he was awarded his doctorate.
“As Chair of Internal Coordination and Learning and Development, I would like to congratulate Dr Ndlozi on completing his PhD.
Ndlozi: Thank you, Mr. Chairman!
