Captain Laura Wolvaardt's incredible unbeaten fifty led the Proteas women's team to a historic victory over Australia in the second T20 at Canberra's Manuka Oval on Sunday.
The six-wicket victory marked South Africa's first win against Australia across all formats.
Chasing 143 points for victory, the Proteas got off to a great start thanks to a 75-run opening stand between Wahlwaardt and Tazmin Blitz.
The Englishman scored 41 runs off 28 balls (eight four-hits) but lost to Talia McGrath (1/16) in the 10th over.
68 runs were needed for the historic win, but after experienced all-rounder Marisanne Kapp, 20, joined Wolvaardt to score a quick 34 runs, Kapp was 109 for 2 against South Africa's Ashley -Losed a wicket to Gardner.
Wolvaardt remained unbeaten on 58 off 53 balls (six four hits) and stood firm as he reached his 10th T20I half-century.
All-rounder Chloe Tryon (4*) hit the go-ahead hit to seal South Africa's historic win and draw their third consecutive match at 1-1.
Beth Mooney, who was batting first, made two dropped catches immediately after deciding to bat first, and was out with 13 RBIs.
It was a great bowling performance from the Proteas as Australia could not settle down and wickets kept falling at regular intervals.
Masabata Claas struck first, beating captain Alyssa Healy, 29, and took the lead 16-2. South Africa quickly picked up three wickets to put the pressure back on the hosts as Nonkululeko Mlaba (1/18), Marisanne Kapp (1/22) and Claas left the hosts reeling at 93/5.
After all-rounder Nadine de Klerk (1/24) removed Ashley Gardner (10), Australia scored an unbeaten 31 runs off 18 balls (3 fours, 1 six) with Grace Harris making a second half cameo. recorded and finished with 142/6.
The series decider is scheduled to start at 10.35am SA time on Tuesday at Hobart's Bellerive Oval.
