The employment is aimed at strengthening ties in the financial sector between the two jurisdictions.
The Isle of Man Government has appointed South Africa's first business representative to strengthen economic ties between the two jurisdictions.
The Isle of Man announced in a statement that Johannesburg-based Cecilia Albertine (pictured below) has been appointed as business development consultant to strengthen the relationship between the two jurisdictions in financial services. She will also work with South African trade associations and businesses to raise the profile of the island and highlight opportunities there.
The Isle of Man and South Africa have a long-standing relationship, with over 35 South African companies operating in the Isle of Man. Institutions such as Nedbank, Standard Bank, Derivco, Microgaming and Capital International also operate across both jurisdictions. The island aims to help South African business owners internationalize their businesses by accessing global markets, expanding and growing.
For the past seven years, Albertine has served as Vice President for International Networks at the British Chamber of Commerce in South Africa. In her role, she will be responsible for strengthening local and international networks and will play a key role in developing business opportunities between the two jurisdictions. Mr Albertine will become part of the Isle of Man Finance Team, the executive arm of the Isle of Man Government.
“The Isle of Man already has good trading relations with South Africa, with trade between our jurisdictions helping to drive economic growth for both countries. We have long had ambitions to build on this strength. Cecilia's skills and experience mean she is ideally placed to help with that,” said Michael Crowe, CEO of Finance Isle of Man. he said.
