Rishabh Pant is gearing up for his return to cricket in IPL 2024. His path back to competition follows a tragic road accident near Roorkee in Uttarakhand in December 2022. He suffered serious injuries, including torn ligaments in his right knee and facial lacerations.
During his recovery, the prolific wicketkeeper-batsman shared some insight with Star Sports about his harrowing experience. He expressed his deep sense of good fortune for surviving the crash. He acknowledged the daunting recovery schedule his doctors had suggested.
“For the first time in my life, I felt like my time in this world was over. At the time of the accident, I was aware of the scars, but I was lucky because it could have been much more serious. “I asked my doctor how long it would take to recover. He said it would be 16 to 18 months. To shorten this recovery time. “I knew I had to work hard,” he said.
Injuries to wicketkeepers were widespread. The impact affected his right wrist, ankle and toes. There were also scratches on his back. Initial medical care was provided at Saksham Hospital near New Delhi. He was then admitted to Max Hospital in Dehradun.
Details of the accident revealed a gruesome scene of Pant's car bursting into flames after crashing into a median strip in the early hours of the morning. The car skidded a considerable distance.
Delhi Capitals, the IPL team captained by Pant, was involved in his road to recovery. Pant participated in the IPL 2024 auction and the November camp. His anticipated return to the pitch has been creating buzz, especially with his upcoming T20 World Cup.
Indian pants missing
KS Bharat briefly played the role of Pant in the Test match, but the hole left by Pant is obvious. However, India's recent loss at home to England has raised doubts about India's batting line-up. And Pant has been very successful in all his three formats of the game.
His skills were not utilized in important matches, including the World Cup final against Australia, another important game in which Rohit Sharma's side lost at home. Pant's absence from cricket is noticeable. Now it's time for him to come back.
