DJ Maphorisa claims to own the masters of all songs recorded on his equipment.
The music producer gave an explanation during an Instagram live chat, saying that if a song is recorded in his own studio with lights and equipment, it becomes his property.
Social media users reacted to the DJ's claims and he trended.
“I also explain this to my brothers.you told us folieHis crib is almost every room full of studios, which is a big deal, but it also means he owns the IP… No foliehe's a legend but you should know this,'' the tweet read.
“about him folie We need people who understand how the music industry operates. Maybe if they could break it down, we could understand. Who owns what and who doesn't own what? When do we “feature” who appears? another person wrote.
