Channel O We're commemorating Pride Month with a powerful new documentary. young, talented, and queerwill premiere on October 31st.
This much-anticipated documentary film celebrates the resilience, creativity and cultural contributions of South Africa's black queer individuals.
Caris Coleman, the documentary's executive producer, emphasized the importance of representation and visibility, “especially at a time when hate crimes against the gay community are on the rise.”
She added: “This is not a story of struggle or heartbreak. This is a loud and unabashed celebration of the immense creativity, power, and influence of Black queer individuals.
“These are the people who are transforming South African art, music and culture, and this will show the world how inspiring and revolutionary they are.”

'Young, Gifted & Queer' focuses on authentic voices and unique journeys
Directed by award-winning filmmaker Renaldo Schwab, young, talented, and queer We showcase the brilliance of Black queer people in art, music, and activism.
The film features the stories of three influential black queer figures in South Africa. Umlilo is a genre fusion artist known as the “Kwai Diva”. and S'bo Gyre, a pop rapper who is redefining entertainment.
The documentary also features prominent voices such as Lelowwhatsgood, Olwethu “Ms Party” Mlotshwa, Dr Bev Ditsie and Sibs Matiyela.
Andiswa Dlamini said the documentary was an opportunity to tell an authentic story.
“This project showed us that we need more time and space to truly share our stories.
“I hope people see this and see that there is community, beauty, love and celebration within the LGBTQIA+ community.”
Umlilo expressed his excitement to bring the strange joy to life on screen.
“Often we only see horror stories about queer lives, so I’m proud to be a part of something that celebrates who we are. I hope they see me as a person with a family, hopes, and dreams.”
