Springbok loose forward Evan Roos has signed a contract extension with the Stormers until at least 2027.
The 24-year-old, a former Paarl Boys High School scholar, already has over 50 caps for the Stormers since joining the senior ranks at the start of 2021.
In his first season with URC, Ruth was named Players Player of the Season, Next Generation Player of the Season, and Fans Player of the Season. He made his Springbok debut shortly after winning the URC title in 2022.
Stormers director of rugby John Dobson welcomed the news that the stalwart No. 8 would remain in Cape Town.
“Evan has been nothing short of sensational since he joined us three years ago and even though he's only 24, there's still a lot more to expect from him in the Stormers jersey.
“He brings physicality, speed and above all a great attitude in everything he does. We look forward to watching him continue to grow in our system,” Dobson said in a statement. .
Roos' contract extension is the latest of a number of new deals confirmed by the Stormers in recent weeks.
Other players who have signed new contracts with the Cape franchise include center Dan du Plessis, young backline star Sasha Feinberg-Mgomezulu, locks JD Sickerling and Ruben van Heerden; and prop Stephen Kitshoff.
“These extensions, and several more to be announced soon, demonstrate that the key players on this team are committed to our vision and buy into building something special over the next few years. “This is very exciting,” Dobson added.
Ruth said the decision to extend his contract for three years was an easy one.
“My rugby career changed here at the Stormers and playing for this team means a lot to me.
“We still have much we can accomplish together and I look forward to playing a central role in our future successes,” Ruth said.
