Actor David James has apologized for using the K-word against co-star Brenda Ngusoli in a film dating back to 2017.

The full statement is below:
“I first met Brenda Nsoli in 2017, working on a feature film. Even before I met her, I was familiar with her work. As an award-winning professional actress, I have always had the utmost respect and admiration for her.
“One night in the cast car on the way back from set, we talked about the political period and setting of the script, our characters, and together we thought about racial adjectives.
“The next morning, there was some banter between Mr. Ncholi and I, and we used derogatory language (including the K-word) to understand each other’s antics.
David James claims a meeting was then called to address Brenda Ngusoli's complaint.
He continued: “The meeting was attended by the producer, the director, the assistant director, Mr. Ncholi, and myself. After a comprehensive discussion surrounding the specific incident I have mentioned above, I found that my conduct was offensive and inappropriate. I realized that I was considered to be.
“I immediately and unreservedly apologized to Ms. Ncholi and the producers. After our discussion, Ms. Ncholi and I shook hands and apologized again for the hurt she had caused. I have a comprehensive record of this, and I'm sure Mr. Nxori has a copy as well.
After apologizing, David said he believed he and Brenda had parted ways on “amicable terms.”
He continued: “I have not had any contact with Mr Ncholi since then.
“We deeply regret the harm caused to Ms. Nxoli. I am sorry that this unfortunate incident still haunts her seven years later. I would like to state unequivocally that I call for further investigation into this incident.
“I support all efforts to re-address this issue.”

In posts on Instagram and X, Brenda Nxoli detailed how she was allegedly racially abused by her co-star in the movie, David James.

She said: “When I was filming this movie, I was called K**l Meat by a fellow white actor…His name is David James.”
Defending her decision to speak out later, she added: At that time, I was standing alone on the set crying.
“Today, I continue to stand up for my truth.”
Brenda Nsoli talks about an incident from a few years ago
In an interview with Anele Mdoda on the SABC 3 talk show Real talk with AneleBrenda Ngusoli said she experienced racism while making the film.
She didn't mention the actor's name or the movie, but said, “I was called a k**t maid. I was called a 'shithole.'
During the episode, Brenda also claimed that she was sexually assaulted by an unnamed actor during her career.
She said: “In the space where I felt most at home, I was caressed by fellow actors. They (the people) rubbed my thighs during takes.”
She continued: “While filming another take, one of the actors said he gets excited when he looks at my feet. And the funny thing is, I laughed. You never know how to react to something like this. No, so I laughed and walked away giggling.”
