South African actress Ama Kamata speaks out about the Chidinma Adesina incident in relation to her participation in Miss South Africa 2024.
The actress broke her silence after the Department of Home Affairs revealed that the model's mother had been implicated in a fraud case, further fuelling anger against the woman in South Africa.
In a tweet, Ama accused South Africans of directing their anger at Chidinma rather than the government.
“It is extremely unfortunate that Chidimma is being made a scapegoat for South Africa's much bigger problems. If anything, this has exposed the level of corruption occurring within government and they must be held to account for allowing such unethical procedures to take place under their rule,” she wrote.
Mr Katamata further explained his original remarks to avoid any misunderstanding among the public.
“Let me be clear, so there is no room for misunderstanding: South Africans' anger, hurt and frustration are legitimate and there is nothing wrong with wanting to protect the legitimacy of South Africa, nor is there xenophobia. But the anger is misdirected: government authorities have sold your identities to foreigners.”
Ama is furious at the silence of South Africans towards their government.
“Why aren't we angry at them? Why aren't they being held accountable? These are the people who are supposed to protect you, yet they are selling your personal information for financial gain,” she wrote.
